Pressure doesn’t break people. It exposes what was already there.
For over two decades, I traded commodities for a living, an arena where one wrong call costs money in real time, with nowhere to hide. In 2020, I went further and started day trading my own capital in the U.S. stock market, alone, with no firm behind me to catch the fall.
Through my career, I learned to handle volatility. What I didn’t expect to learn was how to handle myself.
There’s a moment every trader knows. The market turns against you, and something inside you turns too.
In trading, we have a word for the fast, explosive version of that: TILT. Pride, anger, the refusal to admit you’re wrong – all of it driving the next bad decision.
There’s a slower version too. No explosion, just a quiet erosion of confidence over weeks. We don’t have a word for that one, so I made one: DRIFT.
And there is a third version, the quietest one, the one that doesn’t even look like a problem. You are doing your job, you are showing up, you are hitting your targets. But at some point, you took on more responsibilities, and that is when the doubt moved in. You are still delivering, but inside, you often doubt whether you are actually capable of leading at this level and growing further. So you stay where you feel safe. Comfort creates the illusion of stability. It isn’t one. I created a word for this one too: STALL.”
I have personally lived through all three. And here’s what changed everything for me: none of them were ever about trading.
The trade, the deal, the meeting that went wrong were just the trigger. What got exposed was already loaded: a belief about who I had to be to be worth anything. I have to prove I’m right. My value depends on my P&L. I’m not enough unless I win.
The market didn’t create those beliefs. It just had a way of finding them, every time, like a mirror you can’t look away from.
That discovery became a fascination, and the fascination became a body of work. Watching colleagues — some brilliant, some reckless — I started noticing why some people kept their composure under pressure that flattened everyone else, and why others kept performing without ever truly advancing. It wasn’t talent. It was a handful of patterns in how they thought, planned, and acted before the pressure ever arrived, and before comfort had the chance to quietly take its place.
Alongside my trading, I started mentoring people facing financial hardship, helping them rebuild not just their finances, but their belief that things could be different. That work gave me a sense of purpose I hadn’t expected, and it’s what pushed me to formalize this path: I became a certified High-Performance Coach, pairing evidence-based methodology with what I’d actually lived through in high-stakes markets.
Today, I help professionals do what I had to learn the hard way: spot the belief running underneath the pressure or the comfort, and build a system that doesn’t depend on willpower to hold up when things get hard, or too comfortable.
Pressure will always find the crack. Comfort will always find the plateau. My work is making sure neither one finds you unprepared.
